ART 193 - Plein Air Painting At Yavapai College

Beginning in the Fall of 2008, Yavapai College will be offering a three-credit academic course in Plein Air Painting.  This course will meet at the Sedona Center of Art and Technology in Sedona, Arizona, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm from August 25th through December 13th, 2008.  Class size will be limited to 12 students.

This course will emphasize both composition and tonal understanding in relation to the plein air landscape, using a straightforward and direct approach with one-on-one teaching to encompass all levels of ability.

The instructor, Clive Pates, is a native of Gloucestershire, England, and completed his BFA and Extension Studies in Painting, Drawing and Sculpture from the University of the West of England in 1993.  In 1995 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the New York Academy of Art.  He taught life drawing and painting at Queens Road School of Art in Bristol, England, until he immigrated to the United States in 2003.  Pates is a new instructor for Yavapai College, and will be moving to the Sedona area in August with his wife, (myself), who will be teaching ceramics full-time at the Verde Valley campus of Yavapai College in Clarkdale.
For more information about Clive Pates, please see his website at www.clivepates.com.

Hi everyone, hope your summer is off to a great start.

With the heat coming most of us retreat to our studios for the summer months or travel. By fall we are itching to get back outdoors so now is a great time to sign up for fall classes.  I've put together some really interesting workshop opportunities this year which are listed below.

Speaking of Studios, I would like to invite you to visit my new studio space downstairs inside the Jerome Gallery, 240 hull st. ( next to Raku ) I will be painting and sculpting there usually Thursday, Friday and Saturdays except when I'm out of town for plein air events ( five this year ) or workshops. The studio is a great space with great views, and I currently have some specials on prints and unframed paintings so stop in soon.
