Founding Member 2008
David Haskell began painting in oils when in high school and worked his way through college as science textbook illustrator. He began painting in plein air in 2002 after retiring from a 30 career as a science manager for the National Park Service.
His paintings of the
Grand Canyon and other majestic Southwest landscapes have recently
brought him widespread recognition in juried competitions. He is
frequently invited to participate in juried events and shows such as
the annual Sedona Plein Air Festival. His work can be found in
private and corporate collections from coast to coast in the United
States, and in Europe and Australia. For the past three years he
has organized and led an eight-day rafting trip down the Colorado
River through the Grand Canyon for plein air artists. He has
recently begun teaching both studio and plein air oil painting
workshops through the Sedona Arts Center. Teaching has become an
increasingly important part of his life. He finds great pleasure in
passing on to new emerging artists, the skills he has learned from
his teachers and his own 40 years of experience. For additional
