"Each painting I do begins with an idea, something that's inspired me. I try to distill this in my mind until I've achieved an almost meditative state where I can explore which compositions, color harmonies, etc., will best serve my idea. The balance I'm searching for lies in creating a work that is technically proficient while preserving that which fueled my passion in the first place. The result, hopefully, will provide the viewer with a perspective they might not have otherwise seen, a never-ending moment in time."

A passionate student of art, Cody has studied at the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Scottsdale Artists School, where, in 2003, he was awarded a merit-based scholarship. In 2004, the Oil Painters of America selected him as that year's Shirl Smithson Scholarship winner.

Cody is now sharing his passion for painting through teaching, offering private lessons at his studio in Cottonwood, Arizona, as well as plein air instruction in and around the Sedona area. Cody also teaches classes and workshops through the Sedona Arts Center.

In 2006, one of Cody's paintings was selected for inclusion in a 'coffee-table' style book, titled Plein Air New Mexico, The Jack Richeson Series - Volume One.

In 2007 Cody was notified that three of his studio paintings are to be be included in another book from the Jack Richerson company. He also won several awards in plein air competitions. One of which was the Artists Choice Award at the PANM event in Santa Fe, NM.
